What is Sting's Greatest Song?

I was just listening to a compilation of Sting's music that I put together and realized that he has such an amazing catalogue of work. He really knows how to write a good song.

What do you think his greatest written song is? It could be from his solo work or with The Police. I could easily rattle a half a dozen off the top of my head. Which do you think is his best and why?

I am personally partial to so many of his songs, but every time I hear "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" I cannot help think of what a perfect song it is. It has a great vocal melody with a lot of dissonance. It is harmonically rich and the chorus has a lot of syncopated rhythms that keep the interest.

I could easily pick many other songs, but that one always does it for me.

I've never considered myself to be a huge Sting or Police fan, but I'm still a bit of a fan - and, yes, the man knows how to write a song. It's really difficult for me to narrow it down to anything easily manageable. I do have a soft spot for "Driven To Tears", "Be Still My Beating Heart" and "Sister Moon". And "Fragile", and "Bring On The Night", and... Yeah, there's lots of great stuff to choose from.

Hearing "Roxanne" for the first time in '79 completely blew me away. I hadn't realised you could combine the energy of punk with a strong melody and emotionally engaging lyrics. Sting has written songs I like more, but the impact of "Roxanne" was seismic!

I almost hated to vote for Fragile
It is so often trotted out as an example of Sting at his most sanctimonious
But it's F'ing beautiful in and of itself
Even more heart breaking if you bother to learn its inspiration

I'm not a Sting fan, but "King Of Pain" is a masterpiece IMO. Voted accordingly.

I saw Police live on MTV when Sting was just getting started. He definetely accelerated following that. Too many songs to count for me…

A truly amazing songwriter. Yet, most of his lyrics seem pretty dark, and do not age well in my listening. Catchy tunes, just pretend the lyrics aren’t there. Some exceptions, such as Fields of Gold.

They’re all great songs. I couldn’t pick one.
I have to admit that when I first heard “Roxanne” I thought it was….strange. But after that it was one fave after another. That’s quite a body of work.
