what is the best cable for bass?

The best cable is the cheapest, most durable one that your ears can reliably, blindly differentiate from the rest. I use Monster or Planet Waves, which are fairly cheap and last long IME. There are many threads about expensive cables if you care to search. The arguments pro and con have been done extensively on these boards. I personally fall into the camp that believes expensive cables are a lucrative fraud (dons asbestos suit and goes under ground):hiding:

+3 on Bayou, and if he's super busy with a big backlog of orders, you can get yourself some Canare wire and Neutrik plugs and DIY. Your soldering might not be as good as Butch's, but you'll have a good cable.

For heavy gauge speaker cable, Bayou is awesome. I don't even bother trying to make speaker cable - he does it so much better than I could.

These may be great cables, but I would avoid them for now due to turnaround time for orders. Since the economy tanked, Butch had to get a day job (Bayou is a one-man operation) and he is trying to fill a huge backlog of orders in his spare time. I ordered a single cable in March, and still have not received it.

BTW, this is not a trashing of Butch -- everyone knows how hard the economy has slammed people. He seems like a good man who knows what he is doing, but unless you can wait several months for your order you may want to look elsewhere.

Of course, right now he is selling pre-made cables in standard lengths, and promising immediate shipment if in stock. If these fill your needs, then by all means, try'em out.

if he sells stock lengths then buy them

he uses the best stuff, does a great job, and does not have a huge marketing department or sports stadiums or performance arenas with his name on them
he is reasonably priced and high value

Bayou isn't taking custom orders at all. And at the moment, at least, the only instrument cable in stock is an 11-footer.

And there don't seem to be any speaker cables (which is what I'm after, sorry for the derail).

For those of us who don't/can't solder, any other suggestions?

Pro Cables and Sound (I remember the great cables domain name they also use easier than the main one... same site/people)... Todd and Patty are real nice people... musicians & parents. They have a discount code for supporting TB members and though you never see them spamming here even though they are both long time members here.

They have stock styles but will make just about anything you can imagine... top shelf bits and pieces expertly soldered. I've been using them for years and have never had an issue with anything they've made me.

AND they usually send stickers or pens or some such. I'm a big guy, I buy enough of my own candy :D
