I have an obsession for wood. The musical kind.
I like to go with gear that's time-tested and an overall great reputation is obviously a plus. I don't know about inexpensive, but my Gallien Krueger 1001RB-II (US-made) paired with a Markbass 102P Traveler cab has been nothing buy reliable, FANTASTIC-sounding, and very portable for my last 5 years of steady gigging. Heck, my cab is 33lbs., and I can lift it with my pinky AND fit it through my narrow apartment door!
