What is the best multi effects pedal/unit for bass?

I did a couple of searches and couldn't get anything to hit really, so I thought I'd try a thread. If you know of a good thread on this, please it in.

I'm not much an effects guy when it comes to bass. My band is urging me to get some effects for funk/dance project that we are working up. I don't want a pedal board with several effects on it. I've been down that road before and I hate troubleshooting bad cables and such on stage.

I'm looking for a single unit that has good quality effects in it for bass. I've used pedals before like the M13 and found that many of the effects lacked the low end to really pull off a bass effect. I'd like to find a unit that excels at that. I know of the M9/M13 and I see that Boss makes a couple of units, Digitech makes some, Zoom makes some. I'd like to get some opinions on which one of these stands out from the rest.

The effects that I would end up using from it would likely be in this order:

Envelope Filter
Wah-based effects
Synth effects
Phaser
Chorus
Octave

I'd actually prefer it to be a rack unit, but floor models are fine as well. What would you suggest in this case? Thanks in advance.

I had a boss GT-10B pedal. As far as sound goes I thought it was great, but you have to work with it a lot to be comfortable using in a live performance. I have since went with a few single effects pedals just because it was easier for me to control. But I think boss has some good ones they are a little more pricey.

Boss, Digitech, Line 6 and Zoom all make very good units, which one is best for you who knows but you.

I use a Zoom B2 because it has effects that I like the sound of, the parameters to tailor those sounds and because there are 2 separate effects modules that allow me to make combinations that other units don't.

Would a pedal like zoom b2 make my gk 1001rb with a sub series ray 5 bass sound better on a clear channel and also I'm not good with Ed's but I have trouble peaking the stress light when turning it up loud against a loud drummer and getting a clear sound not distorted has any one had this trouble and would an effects pedal like zoom b2 be good enough

I dont have experience with the Boss, Line 6 or Digitech stuff. But I do have experience with the Zoom stuff. And IMO ZOom is a great deal and you get some really great sounding effects in them. As far as dirt, and you will hear this over and over again because its pretty true, it doesnt sound that great. But mostly everything else sounds great from synths to delays to choruses to filters. Now you just have to figure out how you want to operate them. The B3, ms60b and BXon all function differently but can all do a lot of the same things as far as effects go.

So IMO, Zoom is worth a look for sure. I hear the Boss one is pretty good though too as are the Line 6 offerings. Many good ones out there to choose from. I will say this, I would stay away from anything that wasnt made past 2012 or so. Digital multi effects have come a long way the last 5 years. Im not saying they were horrible 10 years ago, well, some of them were, but most arent nearly as good as the newer ones of today. Just a thought.

You should be able to dial in a mile of clean headroom on the 1001RB.

What cabs are you using and how is all of the EQ set on the amp?

I have a Line6 M13 and Zoom MS60-B and had a Digitech GNX 3, which has bass amp models in it. Get the Zoom, even if it is Zoom B3. I am not sure why people bash the dirt on the Zooms because it better than any other multi I have used, and even better than a lot of singles. Is there better? Sure, I like my Source Audio dirt better, and there are a lot better singles, but for the price, the Zoom is very serviceable, meaning the only one who will probably notice that you aren't using a specific analog pedal is you and about .01% of the crowd.

The best multi effect I've had was the line 6 m5. The only differences between the m5,m9, and m13 are the amount of effects you can use at once and the m5 does not have the looper the 9 and 13 have. But they all have the same effects. I found some effects particularly delays and reverbs to be great while all the overdrives and most synth stuff we're not as usable. And really that's the downside to multi effects in general. They might advertise as having 100 effects but as you go through them and try to dial in sounds you might only find few that you really like. With the m5 Id say nearly half the effects were usable. I ended up selling it. But don't regret buying it as it really helped me figure out what effects were for me.

Not taking anything away from those who ask it all the time, it's a legitimate (and very subjective) question, but "Which Multi-effects pedal should I get" really needs to be a sticky/pinned topic IMO. It comes up so often and there are so many topics started in that regard!
