Double Bass What is the difference in a 3/4 bow and a 4/4 bow?

Hi, I'm getting a bow, but I want to know the difference in a 3/4 bow and a 4/4 bow. Does it make it longer? Or just bigger all around?

3/4 and 4/4 are categories for basses.
bows are different, they may vary a bit in size but there is no 3/4 or 4/4 bow (exept in ebay ads from sellers you better avoid)

where do you want to buy the bow?
do you have a teacher who can help you to select one?

It's actually 1/3 longer.

If a 3/4 bow was 30cm, a 4/4 bow would be 40cm, 10cm longer or 33%

After ~15 years playing bass guitar and guitar, I'm back on (electric) upright bass. Yay.

I'm shopping for a "standard" bow - VERY student model-esque - and found this thread while trying to figure out whether a 3/4 or 4/4 bow is more appropriate.

I've learned that a serious double bass bow doesn't come in fractional sizes, but I'm shopping for a VERY introductory bow here. My plan, for now, is at most, to dabble with arco.

Is a "4/4 size" double bass bow closer to "standard" size for an adult? I'm about 5' 11" (1.80 m) with a NS Design Wav 4 (41.73" scale length).

I know I should spend more and get a good one; I know I should try it in person instead of buying it online; I know I should get a teacher instead of teach myself - but I'm not going to do any of these at the moment.

Just trying to figure out whether I should order a "3/4" or "4/4" size bow. Thanks.

So what are the the exact measures for a 3/4 and 4/4 bow?

I have two bows one is about 3 cm longer then the other.
Do I have a 3/4 and a 4/4/ bow?
