What is the hottest chile?

It might be the Scotch Bonnet. I'm gonna try that Ghost pepper (aka Naga Viper and Bhut Jolokia).

The hottest known Scotch Bonnet is only about half as hot as the Ghost Chili !!

I ate half a ghost once and it felt like a porcupine was running around in my stomach!

I saw that one. That sauce comes from Ohio. The reviews are so-so on heat and quality. I'll keep looking. The one directly from Trinidad is intriguing to me.

Mike, I'll see if I may be able to get my hands on another few bottles. I've given away two in the picture and kept one for myself. I don't have anyone visiting the Trinidad office anytime soon, and don't think they're heading up this way, but I'll see if I may be able to get a few sent in the post.

My current favorite hot sauce is Dave's Gourmet Ghost Pepper sauce. Great heat, and great taste!

Right now, it is the Trinidad scorpion. Chillies crossbreed really easily, so it changes often.

all right...just made a batch of real hot chili....used some serrano and some habenero plus a round chile that i don't know the name of....it is about the size of a plum and yellowish....the guy at the store said it was akin to the habenero in heat...and he was right (any thoughts on what this pepper might be will also be appreciated).....BUT

it got me thinking...just what is the hottest chile in the world

as far as i know, the contenders are:

1. the Bhut Jolokia

2. the habenero.

3. The ghost pepper

ps-edit....my son in law just told me that the Bhut Jolokia and the ghost pepper are one and the same...who knew?...anyway, thoughts appreciated
