My band (originals) did a Sex Pistols cover set for Halloween past, actually three different shows, at the second, during a little break for the singer to show off his awful English accent, the guitar player and I tuned, what we didn't know was that the guitar player's chromatic tuner had migrated from 440 at the beginning of the set to 448 by the tuning break. We start again, sounds like dump, obviously out of tune. I check my tuning, all good, play an A with the guitar player, nope, definitely wrong. Guitar player throws me his tuner, I stomp my tuner into little bits, tune all my strings up, finish the show.
Crowd, including the guys we'd played with the previous night, were convinced it was all staged, just another Sex Pistols set where Sid couldn't stay in tune... We got a lot of compliments for that. At the third show the next night, I pick up the guitar player's tuner, notice it's at 448, good times...
Replaced my old tuner with a chromatic and a clip on, and the guitar player and I now have a new ritual every set, frequency check!
