What Is this Groove Called? Dario Deidda's 4-tet

This is a live recording of Too Late Now, a standard from the film Royal Wedding. It's got a great groove (and Dario's solo on a Fender Coronado is wonderful!). Is this a soca groove?

It could either swing or samba, but I wouldn't necessarily put in the Latin vein, so would call it a two beat.

Sounds like a cross between a Bossa Nova and a Samba.

It's based on samba. The bass is essentially imitating what the surdo (bass drum) would be playing (a quarter note on the second beat in a 2/4 pattern).
