Double Bass What is this? Zimmerman bass

Im trying to do some research on this bass.

It sounds ok, but i am bassing this on my 12 year old playing it. I dont play bass so i really dont know what i am getting here. Paid $1400 with bow and a hard shell case. My son needed a 3/4 bass for orchestra and jass band.

Seller said it was solid top, ebony board, all professionally set up and tuned. He is a retired orchestra teacher who a student put down unrefundable money on it and he ended up paying the rest. Just wanted to break even at best but..... That is his story.

I am unable to find out anything about zimmerman basses.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Never heard of that brand name. I'm sure you googled it? If all is as represented by the seller, and the bass was made with seasoned wood, it should be ok and the price is reasonable for a good, solid top (hybrid) bass. Has it been through at least one Chicago winter? If so, and it hasn't cracked anywhere, it's doing ok.

I played it last night and again this morning. Its my kids so i am just running the bow over the strings. Im actually getting the knack at it. It sounds really nice but that is to my old half deaf ears.

I play the new one and then the Englehardt half bass next to it. Zimmerman sounds better. Deeper. Good tone.

Hoping it doesnt crack. My house has decent humidity levels around 30-35% in winter and 35-45% in summer.
