What is this!?

Hi,

I am new to the forum and wanted to pick some more knowledgeable brains about a bass that I have bought. I bought it because I like the look and sound of it and think it is a copy of some sort of Fender but any ideas what and who made it?

The sticker says FenderJack CSD BLK PA 295100 I think but I cannot find any reference to this on the internet. The previous owner bought it in pawn shop some years ago and it had the stick on the back of the neck.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received......

Picture 2 of 7: what are all those extra holes there for?

Looks like a Fender Jazz Bass clone. No more, no less. Well actually less 'cause all those holes kinda took a tiny bit of weight off.

The headstock looks like it used to say "Squier", and was removed. The "Jazz Bass" is consistent in what a Fender Jazz Bass looks like.
Squier is a division of Fender, so I think the printed label is just misprinted. I hope that's not actually what you paid for it.
I don't think the black hardware is original, but if it all works then it's just a matter of aesthetics.

Looks like a parts bass to me, likely a Squier neck (with logo removed) and body, Gotoh / Hipshot / noname black tuners, string tree and bridge.

Looks like it used to have a bridge and pickup cover, but not sure what the extra holes above the scratchplate are for, possibly the previous owner tried a few odd thumbrest positions?

As long as it feels good, plays nicely and sounds good, don't stress about it, just enjoy it

Thanks for all the info..... I paid £140 so nowhere near the price on the old sticker.

I did wonder whether it was a mishmash of other basses cobbled together.

I also was thinking that it had a different pick guard on it as some point hence the extra holes above the existing one or thumb rests.
I've heard it played and pick it up next week so it was a bit of a punt based on the looks and sound of it being played. It intrigued me and I was under no illusions that it was some lost Fender masterpiece so have gone on gut feeling over the looks. Bit like when you walk into a house you're thinking of buying and know it's the one.
