What is your Bass guitar progression?

Played trumpet through school, but after I left the concert/jazz/marching ensemble environment, I had nothing at all. So about 6 yrs ago (2012), I went and bought a my first bass - A Warwick RB Corvette. Been addicted ever since...

1) Warwick RB Corvette Basic (Nirvana Black/ Rosewood) - To date, still one of the best basses I own. Lightweight, great neck, simple electronics, and sounds incredible. Never selling it. Ever.

2) Yamaha TRBX 304 (Pewter/Rosewood) - Incredible bass for the money. One of those ones I sat down with at GC and couldn't leave without. I learned a lot on that thing.

3) Squier CV 70's P (Black/Maple) - Another one I don't plan on selling. It was a great upgrade from the TRBX and helped me understand why P basses are coveted the way they are. Probably my most comfortable bass.

4) SBMM Ray34 (Honeyburst/Rosewood) - Definitely a player. Has been my main gigging bass for some months, now. Love the 3-band EQ, and the radius of the neck feels great

5) Squier VM Jazz V (Natural/Maple) - Got it a few months ago as my first 5-string, just to see if 5r's were something I could get into. Honestly, this model isn't my cup of tea, but I've learned a bit on it. Planning to sell it in the near future to help put money towards a more playable 5'r (Lookin at an Ibanez right now).

6) Warwick Streamer LX4 (Ocean Blue/Wenge) - Love the way the bass sounds, but it's crazy noisy without string contact. Need to have it looked over by the luthier, but I may start gigging with it once it's fixed.

Couldn't tell you years of purchases anymore, but I those are the "horses in my stable" and the order in which they came to me...

Started playing guitar in 95 even though I wanted to play bass. Long story. Anyway, 2001 I buy a bass to join a band I really liked. Ibanez SR200. Guitarist played a 7 string so tuning down for rehearsal got old fast. Saved and bought a Warwick Thumb BO 5 2 months later. 2009 or 10 I bought a MIM Jazz 5 because I wanted to have the option to play a comfortable, and more "neutral" sounding bass while standing during 2-3 hour rehearsals. 3 weeks ago I bought a Ric 4003. Still own and play all of them pretty evenly, except the Ibanez which stays at my mom's so I can mess around on it if I stay over.

My first in the early '90s was a pawn shop special - a no name plywood P bass copy, maple fretboard and Fender headstock and all. Painted it Steve Harris blue and free-handed a Fender Precision Bass logo with a Sharpie.

A few years later, my first new bass buy was a Peavey Milestone II sunburst. Still have it, but I have acquired ....I'll just say a few more basses since. Nowadays I'm playing various Peavey and BC Rich basses, and an occasional Yamaha Attitude, Jackson, Traben, etc.

Started out and went for years on active 5 strings. Then for a while, went back and forth between 5s, 4s, actives and passives. Now I play mainly 4 string Ps and Js.

I started with a cheapo Washburn P bass and soon discovered that I really wanted five strings. I bought a USA Ibanez ATK and played that for a few years. Great bass, but heavy. I was never happy with the B string, though, and at some point I heard about Dingwall and started gassing hard for one but never really had the money. I ended up selling the ATK when I got kind of burned out on the band scene.

Fast forward five years or so and my wife bought me a 5 string Ibanez Soundgear and I started playing again in a church. I bought a Brice fretless six string to try that out and found that I liked the fretless but not the six strings, so I sold that and found a defretted five string Soundgear online. Around that time Dingwall released the Combustion which was something I could finally almost afford so I saved up and bought one. Since then I've been pretty focused on fanned frets and I've acquired an Ibanez SRFF805 and an ESP LTD B1005SE.

My first bass, around '72, was a Burns Sonic model, which is a short scale Brit thing. It got a few upgrades and finish changes.

In the early 80s I started playing gigs regularly, and got a new Tokai Jazz, which, with a bridge change and a couple of other minor tweaks has been just about everything I ever wanted.

In addition I have a cheap Strat copy with a Shadow midi pickup which serves as a midi bass, and I recently acquired a cheap Ibanez acoustic for playing in the absence of electricity.

And I still have every bass and pseudo bass I've ever owned, although the trem block on the Strat bridge is breaking up, and its a non-standard size so that instrument may get replaced.

When I first started out playing bass, I played a sweet Fender Jazz bass that belonged to a friend because money was tight. When I could afford a bass of my own, I bought one that felt good (I don't even recall the name of it). It subsequently got destroyed in a shipping accident (I believe I still have the hardware). For one reason or another, I stopped playing for about 30 years. Life just got in the way I guess, but I never got over the love of playing bass. Well, apparently my wife had enough of me playing air bass with every song we listened to and bought me a nice little Squire P-Bass kit that I played off and on for a while jamming with friends and family. My brother-in-law finally talked me into joining his band and a short while later I found an Ibanez SDGR Premium that I fell in love with. Been playing it at our gigs every since. I doubt it will be my last bass, but who knows...

My first was a Gibson Grabber (I was a huge Kiss fan). I traded it in on a fretless Rickenbacker, traded that for a Fender Jazz Bass Special, then got a great deal on the 89 Kubicki I've been playing since 1994. I get gas for other basses - like the OP's US Geddy - but I absolutely love my Kubicki.

I do kick myself for getting rid of the Jazz Bass Special.

started out on an old home-built (by somebody else) Franken-bass that my parents bought me, then I picked up a Epiphone Viola bass for my wife to play on (and have kind of adopted it as my own), then bought myself a Peavey Grind 6 string which I play most of the time. Latest one is an old lawsuit era super short scale Savoy SG style bass that I bought as a project (needs some work).

Borrowed 3/4 Kay, Home built upright, borrowed Squire P Bass, bought US Fender P Bass, added Modulus Quantum IV (which I think I'm about to sell). I'm only playing the US P Bass now, and will likely sell the Modulus. It's an awesome bass, just doesn't fit my style. I wanted to give it a try, but I think I'm just a good ole P Bass kind of guy. Not into collecting - bad for my marriage.

K, Started with a Woollies bass and WEM Dominator amp, then found a Fender Jazz Bass in a Bexhill secondhand shop and played it through a late 70s Yamaha 1x15 bass combo (the biggest I could get in my Ford Escort. Stuck with that until a Rick 4002 in white came along, played thru a 300w Laney combo. That was replaced about a year ago with

Ibanex SR 370E with a little Richter combo. To be honest it makes the old Rick feel like a scaffold board.
