Bass weight is such a weird thing to me.
For years, I played whatever bass I had, never even considered the weight. I even had some HEAVY basses. More recently I've started paying attention to it much more, and find anything over 9lbs just bugs me. It's not that I can't play it or anything, it's just not ideal. A bass weighing 8.5-9lbs just FEELS better on me while I'm playing. It doesn't weigh me down, or pull on my neck/shoulders and just feels way more comfortable. I have a P-Bass that weighs 8.4lbs and its the absolute, most comfortable bass I've owned. It feels perfect on me.
On the other side of the spectrum, if a bass is TOO light (under 8lbs) it feels funny to me. It doesn't give me a nice grounded/solid feeling, it's almost a toy. My guitars are all under 8lbs, but that doesn't bother me at all, it's just with basses.
