My friend has a KILLER 65/66 Fender jazz fretless bass that has creme colored Dimarzio jazz pickups that have been on there forever and it sounds Amazing. I want that sound for my Jazz bass.

I have liked the sound of the Dimarzio ultra jazz pickups I have heard on soundclips.

So what jazz pickup is closest to that 70" Dimarzio jazz pickup sound?

You're assuming that wood, strings, amplification and technique have nothing to do with tone, just the pickups?

No, I am not assuming any of the above.

    Redundant comment.

Thanks again. I see they were introduced in 79. I will just have to put out the cash and try them.

    night and day different.

the model Js are side-by-side dual-coil humbuckers with ceramic magnets on the bottom and adjustable steel polepieces.

they're way different from regular jazz pickups.
