D'Addario Chrome Flats .045-.100 ECB81 on both Basses Currently = Ibanez SR300 & Jackson JPB-7 Fretless..
Have a Steinberger XP-2 on it's way & Ordered two sets of LaBella .043-.104 Stainless Steel Flats Double Ball End Strings, Ordered from Ed Roman's..

I've been stuck on Bass Flats ever since trying them about a decade ago..

I am on Dr Hi Beams at the moment - have them on everything except the acoustic bass. Was using GHS Boomers for a while, with P Flats and Daddario XLs before that. I think next I will try Labellas. I usually don’t have anything on for too long before I get bored. I mostly play at my church, although I have a rock covers band I play in (on hiatus) and am helping a friend with a bro country project. But it’s mostly church.

I've put rotobass 105-45 on my Yamaha A2. Before there were old but not still stiff after a year of use Red Devil.
These are more bright ( not as new Red Devil) more hard than these. Rotobass? Depends for me not in this gauge. Too strong....

Time for another update in my never-ending tone quest...

Back to basics = back to Bassics. Time to explore and re-discover the versatility of the nickel-plated steel roundwound.

GHS Bassics 40-58-80-102-130 on my Yamaha.

GHS Pressurewound 40-96 on my P (unchanged).
GHS Pressurewound 44-106 on my J, tuned to DGCF (unchanged).

I love D’Addario XL165s
45-65-85-105. I have used the EB in the same gauge and like them as well. I’m going to try the D’addario XT Coates strings next I think. I tried the NYXL in the same gauge and they seem a tiny bit softer to the feel. The sound great too. I hear the XTs have a similar feel.

An update :

D'Addario XL nickle plated roundwound hex steel core strings (bought as single strings) :


F# standard tuning, as in 2 half steps above E standard tuning, on 28,6" scale Ibanez Mikro Bass :

Gauge: .040 - .054 - 072 - .090

(.054 and .072 being guitar strings threaded through the cut off ball ends of old bass strings)


F# standard tuning, as in 2 half steps above E standard tuning, on 30" short scale bass :

Gauge: .035 - .050 - 065 - .085


E standard tuning on 28,6" scale Ibanez Mikro Bass :

Gauge: .045 - .060 - .080 - .100


E standard tuning on 30" short scale bass and regular 34" regular scale bass :

Gauge: .040 - .055 - .075 - .095

A mixed set Nickel 105-45 on my A2 roundwound, Rotosound Rotobass a little bit harder than my light gauge that i prefer. I'll tell you in long lasting. I've broken one and I've changed with a Ibanez roundwound Nickel.

Same on my NSWav. Lower action on this.
