What kind of strings do you use?

I have 7 basses and two of them have roundwound. The rest are flatwound.

I usually use DR lo-riders on my Schecter Omen 4. I love DRs.

Two days ago I restrung it with DR hi beams just to try 'em out, and the old set was really old. I may go back to the lo-riders for the stiffness. I tend to get excited and dig in when the music gets heavy.

either Rotosounds or Ernie Ball Super Slinky roundwounds. The feel of the flatwounds gives me the willy's...

been using Ernie Balls recently.

I am one of the wierdos that do not like new strings. I change my strings once a year ,and have gone longer. I like them to be nice and broken in.

for my j bass i use ernie ball super slinkies (looking to try comparable thomastiks though). on my fretless though, i go flatwounds. to use roundwounds on fretless you have to put coat after coat of epoxy on the fingerboard or else it'll get chewed up. flats also give it a great sound for later steely dan type stuff

I do agree that it depends on the bass. Also the type of sound people want.

I use DR Lowriders on my MIM Jazz 5. Not that great when you first them on, but give a couple of weeks and they sound great. Very stiff strings. Can get some good chimes out of them.

Dean Markley Fret Masters, Med Light on an Alembic Epic, Light on a Steinberger XP-2 with Moses Fretless neck.

They go from bright to gritty in about 2 weeks & stay that way for 4+ months.

D'Addario regular light roundwounds on my Kramer aluminum neck V, and my Jazz bass both.

I use D'Addario Chromes Flatwounds on my Ibanez ATK300. The sound is awesome, because Chromes have a lot of brightness comparable to roundwounds, but without all the sliding noise. Still very punchy and cuts through the mix just fine!

I like diffrent strings for different tones classic rock on my fenders jazzes with fenders own7250 ml nickel wounds
blues and jazz and old beatles tunes sx jazz Dad's chromes of course
metal and heavey rock on my peavey zodiac with sit silencers does the job nice
diffrent basses diffrent strings diffrent tones you can't get bored of the same ole sound

I like to use DR Marcus Miller's on my USA Std Jazz and DR Sunbeams on my Ibanez SR300M.

I'd like to use DR Marcus Miller on my Precision 0.45-0.100 and 0.45-0.105 on my Jazz Bass. Good strings!

Dean Markley Blue Steels (ML) on my Ric

GHS Bass Boomers, I think, on my fretless Squier P (Gotta love rounds on fretless, and no wear cause of the waxed/oiled board =D)

And some mysterious strings with a black silk wrap at the top which came stock on my Laguna ocean TB70, haven't been changed in two years, yet sound better than any new strings I get.

You know I keep flip flopping back and forth on the flats, rounds thing. I'm very bipolar about one or the other depending on my mood, but I keep going back to D'Addario Chromes for my MMSR5. Whenever I go to another string, within a few months I always come back to them. Those strings make me most happy when I play. I was all gung ho about TI Jazz flats at one time, but really never fell in love with them like the D'Addario Chromes. You always leave the ones you love, but you always yearn for them, too, and come back to them.
I think this time, my Chromes are staying on for good.

Which strings I like seem to depend on the bass you're putting them on. The Modulus Quantum sounds great with D'Addario nickel roundwounds on it. These sound quite plain on my Bluebond basses. Those sound best with DR's. I am really digging a set of Lo Riders with the old Bartolini's on the Bluebonds from the early 90's.
