What kind of strings do you use?

Rounds. Since 1976, all basses, all rounds - usually stainless, an for the last 10 years, usually DRs.

I do have tape-wounds on my rob allen deep 4 fretless - but that's different. It's supposed to sound like that.

Labella 54's on the p bass. D Adarrio 160-5 xl on the Spector.

Cobalt Slinkys. Cost a fair bit, but they're super bright and punchy, really good for actually being able to hear yourself live.

Gretsch has a set of D'Addario flats, I'm not actually all that keen. Thought they'd sound great on a hollowbody, but it just sounds a bit dead to my ears.

D'Addario Chrome's on my Fender P. I play with a pick and love the thump I get from these strings.

Used D'Addario Nickel wound for ever, 100, 80, 60, 40. I prefer a somewhat softer feel and mildly low action. I tried the DR Sun Beams (Round Core) in my prefered light gauge but they were too soft feeling, I may try them again in 105 - 45 and see how that is maybe

Currently I'm using the D'Addario Balanced tension sets 107, 80, 60, 45 I think and I really like them. I never liked how the D-string on the standard sets were always way stiffer then the rest of the strings..

DR Hi-Beam strings in standard gauge. They really bring my thunderbird to life and give it a deep growl with plenty of bite. They have lasted a long time too.

DiAddario Chromes XL. Flatwounds. On my Peavey Fury II.

D'Addario .45-.105 Nickel Wound. Brilliant tone and great feel. Kinda expensive tho coming in at €24 a set from my local music store.

I like Rotosound strings, I usually use Rotosound Tru bass nylon 65-115 on my Ibanez Black Eagle. Or I use Rotosound jazz 77 flats on my fretless

Just another update...

Fender 9050CL (45-60-80-105) has just replaced the La Bella 760FL on my 2014 Am Std P.
My J is still wearing the same ML7200 set I got for it last August.

Yep, EB Slinky is my usual selection for my Warwick Corvette.

I'm using rounds on a fretless.

They give more edge, more growl for playing funk and the like - they also give nice mwah.

Using rounds on a fretless damage the fingerboard.

Flats are to be use only for fretless, no exception, unless you don't mind replacing the neck every 5 or 6 months

Yeah, although lots of people say it's alright to use rounds on fretless, the worn out marks on my fretless rosewood board due to the Rotosound Swing 66 SS rounds that I had used only few weeks, hurt my eyes every time I looked at it. So, eventually I brought the bass back to the luthier for redressing the board together with a set of HalfRounds to be put on afterwards.

He only laughed when I asked if it would be free of charge since it was no more than a month from the time I payed him for putting new fretless board. Although it didn't cost much, still it took sometime for me to be able to play it again.

Now I've changed the strings once more. This time I chose Chromes, not because the HalfRounds had any effects to the board, but due to the low B had lost it charm too quickly.

And I should say Chromes low B is one of the best low B strings for 34" scale.

I use chromes on my p bass also, they are pretty good strings but I also heard la Bella's flats are better

The word "better" is a relative term and totally subjective. It all depends on your tonal goals.

And yes, the Chromes and the La Bells are VERY different.
