$40 is cheap i think

i had to pay a guy £40 to open my amp and find the problem.

From what ihave read to date. It boils down to faulty capacitors. Of course this is my personal opion only and have no facts to prove it.

Often times its just something simple...make sure one of the the speaker wires didn't come off. I would then make up a cheapie jumper our out of lampcord and run the output to another speaker. If thats still no sound, at least you eliminated the speaker as the problem.

You can do a bit of diagnosis by checking the signals at the various input and output jacks. For instance does anything come out of the effects send? Does the amp play if you plug a signal source into the effects return? If you can isolate the problem to the preamp, for instance, then the repair probably won't bankrupt you.

Thanks for the advice fdeck! I tried what you suggested and I got a signal out to the PA both from the effects send and from the balanced out. Does this mean its a preamp problem? Im not sure if this is significant or not, but when I turned all the knobs on the amp to the right and played the bass, the preamp clip light came on strong as well as the limiter active led. Of course no difference was made in the sound coming out from the PA.
