What makes the Russian Big Muff so good?

I still have mine from when I played metal... It doesn't see much action now cause I play jazz/funk/etc... Even my new rock project doesn't call for such a nasty tone.

But I really love this pedal... Mine seems to be an older one - it's like an actual box, taller than the ones I've seen recently at GC, etc.

Tone-wise it's absolutely insane, I've never found an od/dist pedal that actually adds lows the harder you drive it. Even in my metal days I couldn't turn up the tone past 2 or 3 - the sound was just too nasty - in a good way!

to give the first useful answer, the russian big muff has different values in the tonestack, coupling caps, resistors.
most prominent are a slightly different tonestack and sound changes due to the different coupling caps.

usually, the triangle (nyc) big muff, the russian (or green) big muff and stock big muff are distinguished.

and, btw, @kaputsport, somebody already had the idea to name a pedal "cameltoe" long ago, a certain mister huge aka way huge electronics.

to anybody with further interest, i warmly recommend to google the different schematics.

cheers,
