what power amp?

I'm torn between a few different options: I'm looking at getting a Bass Pod XT Pro and a LIGHT, dependable power amp. What's the consensus between QVT, Stewart, and ?. I'm not sold on Carvin or Peavey...seen issues there. I've actually kicked around getting a RBI, but like the flexibility of the Bass Pod, for recording and flexibility/weight factor.

you're going to have to be more specific on what you want in an amp. And even then it's going to be difficult to get a concrete answer. My two cents would be: I've seen QSC probably get the most consistently good reviews over a very long period of time. Even better, I don't think I've ever heard anything bad about them.

Well, I'm looking for something enough to drive a couple of 410 cabs, lightweight, dependable, and hopefully no more than 2u. good price helps...actually that is a prime factor. I'm not so sure I buy into the "tone coloring" argument...my thoughts are that a power amp only amplifies a signal, not colors tone. Then again, I'm curious to what you all have experienced in real world experience.

Perhaps then, you should make a thread called "PA amp tone comparison" but, prepare for it to be a mile long and every post will probably be different. Though, given all the amps out there, I guess thats what you're going to get inevitably.

I can vouch for them sounding different though. I once tried out a buddy's big 4U PA amp in place of my CS400 and while it was a little more defined the bass seemed less "bassy". I'm not sure how to define it. It just seemed more like black and white vs. color TV.

It was called Centron or something like that. Never saw the brand again.

Good stuff. I'm more looking for feedback for price/value input, but now have some curiosity about brands. I'm wanting something lightweight, durable, and as transparent as possible...seems like Crown and QVC are the best options, or at least the most recognized. Again, I defer to the experts!

If it was an Audio Centron, then I'm not surprised you had that reaction. Audio Centron is a company that makes cheap, pretty crappy PA gear. Definitely a step down from Mackie, Behringer, etc.

Consider a Stewart World 2.1 It's 17 lbs and is really two completely separate amps in one 19" rack mount case, and each of the two amps can be run as low as 2 Ohm delivering 900 watts each. Or the amps can be bridged to produce 1800 watts into 4 Ohms. The only thing shared by both amps is the fan and the power cord. Reliable and uncolored power.

QSC amps may be just as good, I just have no experience with them.
