What router bit/tool do you use for tight corners?

What pattern bit do you use to get into the tight corners?

I just finished routing a bridge jazz pup cavity using a template from StewMac. I have a 1/2" dia. pattern bit that doesn't fit into the corners so it leaves just enough material to where the pup doesn't fit.

Do you guys use a smaller diameter pattern bit (3/8", does any one make smaller ones than that?) or do you use a chisel or file or something like that?

I guess that I'm trying to avoid buying a 3/8" bit but I'd like to weigh it against the alternatives before I rule it out.

Thanks! :bassist:

Personally, I make my templates a certain measurement oversize that allow me to use a 1/2" bit to hog, and a 1/8" bit to clean up the tighter parts (using a proportionately smaller collet). Thin bits flex, it's best to plunge the majority of the clean up, and then walk the rest of it.

Oh, and if the application is needed, I've got .2", .225", and 1/8", though the last one is my holy grail for the positive inlay in my detail/marquetry (inlay is still coping saw and dremel.....wish I had the hand tools/skills to do the negative without the dremel).
