I posted a while back about adding a third pickup to my jazz bass, and giving it a kind of Bass VI motif, and I finally pulled out a chisel, and drill and fitted that dang pickup in there. It works pretty well, and after a few adjustments to all the pickups, I can get some really cool, gnarly tones. Right now I'm working on the rest of the electronics, and I already have most of it planned out, but I'm still contemplating the last part.
I found some DPDT center off mini switches that would work perfectly for this, and I am going to put one for each pickup close to the position they are on a Jaguar/Bass VI, so one way- lets say forward- is normal phase, and middle is off, and the other way is out of phase. I know at least two positions involving phasing that sound great, so that is set in stone. There are now three holes in the control plate to fill though, so the first one will be a push/pull volume and series/parallel (between the middle, and bridge) pot, but I can't figure out what to do with the other two.
I have two options in mind, but I am completely open to ideas. My first idea was a varitone style set-up that I already have on my p-bass. It would take up both holes, with the middle hole being a rotary 4-way switch with 4 different material, and value capacitors for different tones; and the last hole will be used for a simple tone pot. As I said, I already have it on my p-bass, and I find it very useful to dial in many different tones.
The second idea I had was using the two slots for a strat style double tone set up, with the middle pot being the tone for the middle pickup, and bottom pot being the tone for the bridge pickup.
