What should I do with my Subaru ?

Hey,

Just looking for some opinions here.
About this time laat year I bought a 1998 Subaru Impreza Wagon that had a ver.4 EJ20K 2.0 turbo engine swapped into it, along with a bunch of other go fast bits, the car was originally Burgundy but was repainted a fire engine red, the car was pretty quick with that motor. Unfortunately she spun a bearing in the bottom end and that was the end of that motor. Hadn't even put 300km on it. :bawl:

I should of called it quits there but I have a thing for small wagons (S4 Avants, volvo swaggens, VW wagons) and seeing as I never see Impreza Wagons of the GF8 body type, I feel the need to keep her alive.

So I went and bought a V6 STI RA swap with the 4.44 G/R and swapped it all in. I wired the whole car up and had everything going smooth, passed safety and emissions testing with flying colours, then sent the car off to get tuned for NA fuel, as Japan has a higher octane fuel selection than us. On the way up to the tuners, the car developed a horrible misfire on wide open throttle. It would hit 4000 rpm and chug and spit and cough, a friend following me said everytime it started to miss I was shooting flames out my 4 inch tail pipe:cool::thumbsup:.

The guy who was to tune it didnt want to diagnose what was going on. So i took it back home, swapped maf sensor, o2 sensor, camshaft/crankshaft sensors, and did spark plugs and checked gap. None of this helped. Still misfiring. Then I did wires, checked all the vac lines and still nothing. Still misfiring. Still shooting flames.

So I parked the car for the winter, pulled the motor/trans/rear diff/ stripped the interior of everything, and began cutting out the bad rust and welding in new metal.

I got pretty much all of the rust taken care of now, but what do I do with the powertrain?

I have a few options here, and would love to hear some input. I realize this is a bass forum and not a Subaru forum and not everyone will understand my madness with this car, thats okay. Ill take any input I can get.

So with that said...

Option 1:
Should I go about replacing every thing on the V6 motor? Sensors/timing belt etc and hope in some way I resolved the issue?

Option 2:
Should I save my pennies and get a USDM STI motor ? Benefit is these motors are Obd 2. Neither of my previous motors were.

Option 3: Get a V7/V8 JDM 2.0T. Benefit is this motor is plug and play with 02-07 WRX harness and can run off a wrx ecu. V7/V8 considered to be two of the best turbo subaru motors. Rev to 8k, v7 is forged internals too and the block is stronger than my V6.

Option 4:
Crush the car and feel sad about it for a long time.

Pictures of said car coming soon.

Don't crush that Subie!

I'm very sentimental about my 1999, when the head gaskets went at 158K I could have just let it be crushed - I choose to take it to a great shop and spend some money on it, it's at 249K now and has otherwise always been a fantastic, dependable car with very little other expense. They are of course great for hauling gear, and in any weather.

Option 4 bad. Bad, bad bad.
I would option 3 but I probably don't feel the need to go as fast as you do.

jeeze my 07 outback's tach rarely sees 4k except on the steepest high mountain passes... slow down ? and get the thing fixed.

i have an awesome Subbie Tech. between my wife and me, we've had 4 OB wagons. He's the only guy to touch than other than a ew warranty repairs the dealer did. Dogs, basses, Skis, cycling- they are great gear and critter haulers. I do drive them gently though. I save the horses for the mountain passes...

V6? Truly? This is a new one on me.
Yeah, I didn't know you could get a V6 Scoobaru, never mind a V7 or V8.
Try swapping in an H6, it might fit better. Lololllolol.

Subaru classifies their 2.0 Turbos in versions. So V6 is a Version 6 engine from 1999-2000 ish, Version 7 is 2001-2003 and Version 8 is 2004 till ????
Subaru did make an flat 6 cylinder.
