What should I get to make my Hubby be wireless?

Okay, I'll admit I'm NOT a bass player. :crying: I married one so the closest I get is watching and listening. I'd like to get him out of his "corner" (physically he's ACTUALLY playing in a corner with all his gear around him) and be wireless but I don't know the first thing about what to do... Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!

You are a good spouse to put such forethought into buying him such a gift, but are you sure that it is a piece of gear/technology that he really wants? As a musician that came from a sort of D.I.Y./Garage/Punk background, I have no interest in wireless, not because of anything wrong with it, but due to the fact that I have no need for it in my signal chain, and I have a taste for simplicity (P Bass, tube heads, just one pedal).

Enthusiasts of any gear oriented technology, be it playing bass, or something else (computers, skiing, boats, cars, bikes, etc.) are often very particular in their choices of gear. It seems like the obsession with G.A.S. drives about half of the threads on TalkBass. I'm sure guilty. If my girlfriend gave me a wireless, I would truly appreciate the gift and the thoughtfulness behind it, but I would privately feel bad that she spent her money on something I didn't really want, that I now will use, so as not to hurt her feelings.

He's mentioned (more than once) a desire to able to move around when he's playing so I'm comfortable surprising him as long as it's a well-rated piece of gear (by his peers). My only questions are to do with the technology, specifically the Line 6 Relays that have been recommended, and if it works with his assorted pedals on his pedal board, etc and if it gets interference from wireless computer equipment or phone lines?

the G30 and 50 Systems should work fine on his pedalboard (Providing he has space) as they can be powered by the same power supply as the pedals, and i havent heard any stories of them getting any interference as the technolgy is Digital and much less interfence prone than other wireless systems, i'm looking at the G90 model myself when i have the money.

Another vote for Line 6 G series. I've been using a G50 for about half a year and have been very happy with it.

And look for the posts about rechargeable batteries. Or buy him a 24-pack of AA batteries to get him started.

I'd like to 2nd this. I have the XDS95 (paid $129 for it). Fantastic unit especially considering the price, but it failed after 8 or 9 gigs (something is up with the connector on the transmitter). It's under warranty, but I probably won't deal with it just to get another questionable piece of gear. The Relay G30 (or G50) is well worth the extra money. Our Keytar guy uses one and it's been flawless since day 1.

The transmitter pouch that attaches to your strap is also a good suggestion. Love mine.
