I must be the only one who uses the black 3" Martin woven cloth strap with leather ends, the most comfortable strap I've ever tried.
I've never needed anything wider than a 2.5" strap. Feels perfectly comfortable. Anything wider would just feel...funny.
Currently I own two of the black padded leather Levy's straps. Very nice...

I am assuming you're talking about strap width.
3 1/2". I am not sure what the material is (neoprene + padding?), but it's a Comfort Strapp.
You know, I really wanted to try that strap out... The problem is all the reviews i read say its too short... but the thing is, idk if the guys reviewing it slam that thing down to their knees, lol... I play with my bass up rather high, and yeah im a big guy Bill Dickens style !
SO was wondering how short it actually is in total lenght ;p

I made "Old Faithful" out of leather back in 1969. It's about 3/32" thick, 4" wide, and 46" long It has faithfully supported my fretless P-Bass since '71.
The new 5-string I got a few years ago is heavier than the P-Bass - too much weight for the 2.5"-wide leather Levy's strap that came with it: always painful after a 4-hour gig.
Last week I ordered a "Slider-Strap" ( http:Link Removed ) in the hope that spreading the weight across two shoulders would stop the pain. If it doesn't help as built, I'll sandwich the 2"-wide straps in padded leather that's nice and wide.
I have Dunlop straplocks, but the part that's screwed into the bass stick out so far that my cases are getting chewed up. Are there reliable straplocks that protrude only a little?

+1......They are 3.5" and taper to 3.0" My favorite strap by far! I've been using them for many years.

love mine. Only complaint I had was it took them like 5 weeks to send the strap since they make it when they get the order!
I would go back from 4" to 2 1/2" though, the 4" is digging into the side of my neck!
i use a 3 1/2" leather strap by 'guvnor', and the wife got me a handmade leather strap the same size from ebay for xmas (its got my initials tooled into it)
My Zon has a really nice, very padded 2" leather Levy's. It is a very light bass, so that strap works well for it.
My Nordstrand has a 4" Moody Talkbass strap.
My Cirrus has an ultra soft 3" leather Levy's.
My Lakland has a 3" leather Levy's.
My other basses share a Comfort Strapp.

I have an Overwater strap, I think it's 3.5 inches thick, and its very comfortable. The jazz that I use it with weighs almost a stone and I can barely feel the weight of it.

I use a Levy's M6-at least that's what it was called when i bought it. It's 3.5 inches wide, has that sheepskin stuff on it, and is black. I've had it since 2001 i think. The only thing that i could see me doing is picking up a Moody's so that i could have a strap on each bass that typically use on a gig [sometimes i need 2 electrics plus my DB].
+7 (for all of my basses, giutars, and even rigged one up for my banjo)
I swear by these things.
I love my Levy's 4" padded leather straps. I have two with Dunlop strap locks and can use them on any of my basses.

UPDATE: I received the "Slider Strap" after waiting a few weeks; according to the invoice, there was a one-week delay between the date I placed the order (by phone) and the date they processed it; so far, so bad. :scowl:
Even worse, no matter how I adjust the Slider, the head and tuning machines of my bass are too low and too far away for me to play comfortably - cumpulsory neck-dive and a long reach to the first fret and tuning machines are NOT what I bargained for.
If any of you are satisfied owners of the Slider, do you have any suggestions on how to adjust the Slider to do away with neck dive and shorten the reach to the first fret?
The packaging says: "Your Slider will give you the most comfort you can get from an instrument strap. That's our guarantee." Despite their so-called guarantee, they have not replied to my e-mail or snail mail.
Color me dissatisfied.

I think mine is 2 1/2"... but it is nice, its levis, i think its canvas, but it has metal rings in it as well

I absolutely love my 4" Italia leather straps. I have a few of them. I've got Dunlops on all of them, except the one I use on my '79 Ray, which I don't have straplocks on. It took a bit of work to get the straplok's on them, but it can be done.
Perhaps it's because the person used to work for Moody, ripped off their designs, and then tried to steal their customer base. Or it could be other complaints that I've read about: long waits, poor communication, unethical practices...
