What song at your funeral?

I got to think about this pretty concretely some years ago when I was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. Oncologist told me I needed to get my end-of-life plans in order (!). Scary stuff at 45. But in the end, after agressive surgery and a very challenging 8 solid months of heavy chemo, I survived (20+ years now) and those plans never had to be put in place. But I did think about what music I wanted at my service at the time.

Hope

There are so many candidates really... I would like the people attending to be moved by the music, but it should also give hope and lift their spirits.

The Scandinavians do it best when you want heart-wrenchingly sad, yet hauntingly beautiful stuff:

More uplifting because of its soaring brass, the driving rhythm section and the mindblowing harmonies and stacking of chords is this one:

And for more bass, this is just so beautiful and uplifting as well:

Off the top of my head:
  • As Long As I Can See The Light - Creedence
  • Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel
  • Starless - King Crimson
  • On The Turning Away - Pink Floyd
  • In My Life - The Beatles
  • Here Comes The Flood - Peter Gabriel
I've got to get the full list together, at that point in life where planning is past due, doing my will and all that for the first time.
