What strings do you use on your MTD USA?

Me too. Having kids sort of puts a damper on this kind of thing - at least for me anyway. Those were the days though.

Well, musically, I'd have to say my solidbody gets more air time. However, if I want something that has that same basic character, but a bit of a "bigger" sound, it's all about the Marilyn. I do find that the slightly more agressive tone of the solidbody cuts a thick mix better, but in a smaller arrangement, the Marilyn does an unbelievable job of filling space without being obtrusive at all.

So in a way, we're talking different tools for different jobs, but unlike the literal case such as a screwdriver vs a wrench, either one of these could be someone's only bass no problem.

Just an update, but I put the Skjold Strings back on and I am really starting to dig them. They have a nice slick feel due to the final wrap being nickel, but have a nice zing to them due to predominantly steel makeup. If the hybrid set from DR that I ordered doesn't work out, I will probably a 3 pack of strings from Pete.

They do die fast, but they are also half the price as MTD heh. MTD last a month to 6 weeks. I can keep D'Addarios going for about 4 weeks.

This is probably a personal chemistry kinda' thing, but no way could I keep D's going 2/3 the time of the SS's. No way. They'd sound like rubber bands. I get kinda' "active" in the dance band, and sweat on the strings some (not dripping or anything, but you know). I do what I can wiping them down and whatnot, but nickel strings just don't survive with me. I love the slickery feeling, but I'd have to change them a LOT more often.

Both of those sets of strings are on my list to try out. I had the super steps on my Skjold Custom 5 just before I got rid of it, and I remember liking the finger style tone very much. Also, the SR2000 strings have always intrigued me. I just haven't got around to trying them yet.

I have a 535 that I tried Dean Markley SR2000 Will Lee set. They sound great when you first put them on, but in my case they died quickly. I don't know how often you play, but I perform weekly and practice daily, so my definition of the strings dying quickly may not be yours. I had to change mine after after about 12 performances. I have MTD nickels on mine now, and they sound good. I also like Elixir's and R. Cocco's on my 535.
