What strings does Les claypool use

Does he just use long scale strings on his piccolo scaled bass then? Wouldn’t the strings be too long?

He might buy or is given custom length strings especially given his long history With Dean Markley himself. They've known each other for years.

That's pretty recent of a pic. Its cool seeing him still playing blue steels. I tried them before knowing that Les has been a long time user and I gotta say they are really nice strings. Lasted a long time, settled in and held a thick punchy tone for a long time. They seem to have more character than most of the strings I've been playing over the years.

I noticed that too. I have tried a bunch of different strings over the years and I have found that those Dean Markleys are some of the most unique sounding strings. For better or for worse, but I enjoy the tone they give.

I think it's the overtones and how I they have a different texture than most rounds. If you have a style that utilizes different attacks and plucking/picking they seem to pick up on that more but it's in the mids not the treble. They aren't as bright as some strings I've tried. I dig them.

The brand would also be nice to know, but that's not what I'm wondering.

He uses light gague strings, most likely rounds. There is an interview where he says that he uses Dunlop strings but he might have just been paid by Dunlop for that.

Just to set it straight he endorsed Dean Markley strings for years but in the last 10 he's endorsed Dunlops. Probably still uses both especially given how many basses he tours and records with.
