What strings for Baritone Danelectro, to make into 6-string BASS E-E standard tuning?

Hey!

I have a baritone Danelectro and would love to get strings that can be tuned from E-E, in order to make it a 6 strings bass.

From my research, I have found that the scale from the Danelectro Baritone vs. Danelectro 6-String Bass is the same at just under 30'..which should make it an easy transition. The nut width and saddle width is whats making me nervous

Been looking at the EXL156 strings... They are 24-84.
Standard Baritone strings are 14-68.

Will this transition most likely need a lot of modding?
Anybody know of lighter 6 string bass sets?

All you're really doing is shifting all the strings over one position, throwing out the lightest one and adding a heavier one.

You'll probably need to widen the nut slots to fit, but that's a pretty easy job. Lots of posts about it on here.

You probably don't want lighter than an .084 on the low E, unless you're going for a very specific tone that calls for a string that floppy.

Ernie Ball makes a set that will work for a 6-string Dano. As said, may need some changes to the nut and do a full set-up and you should be good to go!

I've tried the EB's on my Dano 6 string. The bottom end is a slightly higher gauge than the EXL's--you may want to take that into consideration.

Ernie Ball 2837 set gauge : 20-30-42-54-74-90

To do exactly that is a good idea, if the lone plain string at the top doesn't bother the OP. It's what I did when I first (well, immediately after I got it) restrung my OLP baritone for E-e tuning. It came with the Ernie Ball 2839 Baritone Slinky set, and I discarded the top .013 and added a single short-scale bass .085 at the bottom. You could do the same with the [This invalid link has been removed] and a single S-S bass string.

Here it is. A word of caution: the distance between the Dano backplate and the leftmost tuning post should be at or above 32.75", or else the EB .09 will wrap around it some (it's that long because it's designed to go string-through-body on their Silhouette Bass Guitar, of which my OLP MM5 Baritone is an authorised copy).
A fortiori I'd avoid the EXL156: winding length is something like 35.5", to account for the bridge-vibrato plate afterlength. The ideal set for the OP's requirements would have been the EXL155 set, same gauges as the -156 but lengths tailor-wound for Jerry Jones's Danelectro recreations (32" tops), but D'Addario discontinued it when JJ retired. Some stores may still have one (I know a couple do in Europe), but I wouldn't vouch for their freshness (can't remember if they came in sealed plastic bags but I seem to remember they did not).
