Really? I know that they've always had red silk, but the last two sets I've bought no longer have it.
Just bought some, the steel versions have red felt, the nickles don't have anything.

Does the boomer B-52s have red silk?

I'd say ken Smith Boomers are more Orange than Red...
Red Silks:
GHS Boomers (Tuning Post Only)
La Bella Deep Talkin Flats Light Gauge
Rotosound Swing Bass 66 (Long Scale), Ball and Balls
Rotosound PSD 99's Piano String Design, Tuning Post Only
Thomastk-Infeld Jazz Flat, Post and Balls
more of a redish orange strings...
Ken Smith Burners (Orange Post / Blue Balls)
La Bella Super Alloy 52 (Redish Orange)
I cant remember the string brand but I once had a set with purple silks....pretty classy looking. Trace elliot use to make strings with green silks that were great!

Purple Silks are also found on:
GHS Precision Flats
Ken Smith Stainless Steel Rounds / Slick Rounds / Pressure Wounds (both post and balls).
Nope, I just ran back to check and the silks on the B52s are purple.
GHS Progressives as well. Precison Flats, Boomer B52's, and Progressives all use the same thread. Probably the same thread is used on Ken Smiths as well..kind of a tip of as to who makes Smith strings![]()
Are Boomer B52's still in production?
No. On occasion we find a box of them, and then promptly blow them out at a ridiculous price.
I was also looking for the answer because I have a bass that has red silk on both ends and they sound AMAZING. I'm not sure if they're Boomers or Rotos.GHS Boomers do.
Old thread but seems a useful place to request help in identifying the strings I need. I am trying to find out what strings are on my 5 string Peavey Cirrus so I can buy a set for my 6 string Cirrus. There is only red silk at the top and no taper on top or bottom. They are a bit mellow so I think they are nickel wound or coated. Please the the picture. Thanks in advance!! View attachment 4721902
