What to do, what to do....

Dear Talkbass Advisors,
My mechanic just came to my door and told me he had sold one of the cars I had on consignment at his shop. He said I could come down and pick up a check.
I am torn.
Do I deposit the money in a high yield investment account, and save the money?
Do I start perusing the for sale section of TB?
Thanks- Clueless in Cow Country
Sounds like a rhetorical question, Paulabass...

Any investment in traditional financial instruments these days is fraught with peril, and complete loss of capital is a very real concern. Even government backed "savings bonds."

Gold might be a better option. In a post-apocalyptic world, many people will still value gold.

I would recommend a nice shorty. Maybe a Stingray SS (I like the blue/maple!), or Fender Japan JB62SS jazz. (I like the red!) Of course, this is me projecting. The nucleus of it: get yourself a nice bass. Or gold.

Personally, I’d buy stock with it. I am one of those who believes this CV has created a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to invest at fire sale prices, with the possibility of very high returns quickly.

Then of course, if all goes as planned, buy 2 basses next year with the profits.

PB, I've learned that generally a man has no business telling a smart woman what to do . . . . but since you asked (and it's really none of my business):

IF I had just scored an Alembic, AND then had a pile of money fall out of the sky, with the way things are now, I'd bank it and sit on it. Things are going to get dicey, and I'd agree in a few months prices may fall just like gas prices. These are uncertain times in so many ways, and I'd be conservative as who knows what's ahead of us?

All I know is every time I've ever had a pile of money fall in my lap, and I got hot and bothered, and spent it quick . . . . I was sorry of it later.

All the Best,

JW
Wife didn't even let me see our IRS stimulus deposit. She whisked it away quicker than you could say "Buy a new bass!" Thanks to her we have a small pittance tucked away for retirement...
