What to do with a broken lead?

I have a lead that stopped working one day, put a meter across it on loop and nothing.
I was thinking of cutting it down and turning it into a patch cable?

Thing is it has sealed on connectors to the main lead, what usually breaks on cables? and is it a waste of time to even try to recycle it into a patch lead?

If the cable's thin and cheap, toss it.

If the cable's decent quality, clip the molded plug(s) and solder on a decent 1/4" plug. Do one first and test; if you're lucky, it'll work now. If not, clip and replace the other molded plug.

It was a cheap one, I'll throw it away.
