What to use?

Im stumped with this one issue.
I have an app on my phone that I want to send my bass’s sound( I guess )to. I have tried plugging an aux cord into the headphone jack and the aux in parts of my amp, but no sound comes through. Any ideas?

Dunno.

But DO know that the HEADPHONE socket is an OUTPUT so naturally zero sound will come out when something is plugged IN to it.

Thanks, that makes sense why that didn’t work. I am just trying to figure out what to use.

I have halfheartedly looked into this a time or two.

If you have an iPhone, I understand you can use a nifty device called an iRig specifically for recording music to your phone. I'm not super familiar with it, as I have an Android device. It's a very popular choice, however, and preferred to Android as iOS doesn't introduce latency on playthrough like Android does. So I've read.

On Android, it's conceivable you could use a hands-free earbud/mic combo or headset. The fidelity will be awful. Honestly, you're probably better off setting the phone on something and just recording on the built-in mic. However, the wee baby diaphragm a phone's internal mic uses is not friendly to the very low frequencies of a bass guitar. In my experience. But it's possible there are many more solutions to this problem than the ones I know of.

Most phones will have a TRRS plug. The second ring is for mic in.

I had the irig1 and it was crap- broke in a month. I then went ahead and got the irig2 and it’s much better and still going strong after a year. Would highly recommend this for having a bit of fun with thegarageband effects. You can also try an app called tonebridge.
