I have my first gig coming up soon, and it is semi-formal (Not suit and tie, but a collared shirt is the minimum, no t-shirts) and my only collared shirt is worn out, stained, and faded (in the bad kind of way) My dad offered his old gig shirts from when he used to play out, and although they are really good shirts, they kinda have that 90s look. What in your honest opinion would be the better idea? Faded/stained vs wrong decade?

Oh, ok. I was just asking because my drummer is a bit of a fashion freak, and I'm not the kind of person that knows what's "in". I've narrowed it down to a shiny maroon ODO shirt with black spiderwebs, and a black shirt (label ripped off) with flaming die going around the bottom.
hit the bargain rack at Sears, Macy's, JC Penney, etc.
You should be able to pick up a collared white, black, or gray long or short sleeve shirt for $10-$15. Get a pair of black pants too.
If you can't afford it go with Dad's shirts. A solid color collared shirt is rarely out of style.

I can't imagine anyone without at least one collared shirt that's presentable. Discount stores are found all over - even Salvation Army and thrift shops will have stuff. This is incredibly easy to fix...just go find one.
Sorry, but I don't have the coin for a new shirt. I'm lucky if I get $10 every other week. My amp and bass were from x-mas and b-day card money. I guess I'll just wear my dad's shirt. After all, I think they're cool looking, it's just my drummer I'm worried about, but now that I come to think of it, he's being a jerk. If he complains, I'll tell him right where to shove it!
remember to check with the other band members so you dont show up at the gig and two of you are wearing the same thing

would it be out of the q to ask the 'rents for a little help with new duds? i think most parents would agree that not having even one presentable semi-formal outfit is unacceptable. you will (hopefully) at some point need to interview for work, right? visit schools, meet with financiers, attend functions, etc that require presentable attire anyway, so why wouldn't they be willing to help you out here? but like said already, a clean, solid colored collared shirt is never out of fashion. really, tho? not one good shirt? ouch. hell, pm me your address i'll GIVE you one, sheesh. 
I cannot fathom being so broke that I couldn't buy a shirt. OP, if you get some gig money, and start asking about upgrading your rig without this in front "Got some sweet duds with my gig money!" , I will be vexed.
Go to Goodwill or Salvation Army. You can get top shelf clothing for next to nothing.
I have a big Goodwill very close to me. I am a jeans & T guy but I own a business and have to look good sometimes. All of my dress cloths have come from there. Arrow or Van Heusen shirts for $2-5 dress pants and shoes for cheap. I got 3 Armani suits that fit me perfectly for $100!
I hate spending money on dress cloths when it can go for gear.
I needed a white shirt,black tie and dress slacks for a Blues Bro show. I went to Goodwill and got everything for $15. I spent more than that driving my truck with gear to the gig.
