What tube amp do you play?

You guys with these killer 8x10 cabs and monster heads (SVT, Mesa 400, etc) really make me long for the days when I had the strength and crew help of years ago.

Do it while your backs will permit. :thumbup: Nothing sounds like a classic SVT & 810 or a Mesa 400 and a roadready 6x10..

Me and my 2 bandmates are the extent of our "crew". Guitar player also plays a heavy tube amp with a half stack. Drummer plays a very large double bass kit. I play an SVT with a fridge. 2 guys on each piece of heavy equipment and it's no problem. My cab has wheels and is way easier than moving 2 410s. Drummer is 48, I am 44, Guitarist is 31.

Some people ( Jimmy M.) swear they can tell no difference between a US made SVT and a Chinese/Vietnamese/Korean model. I'm glad mine is US made though.

US made with Asian made with Asian parts. What's the difference? As long as QC is good, location shouldn't matter.

Well, an all-valve head won't ever have Class D weight, that's true. But at a mere 45 lbs., the 400+ is pretty darned svelte. And as for a truly killer box, a 2x15/2x6.5 will d-e-c-i-m-a-t-e 810s that are twice its weight.

I had a 70's V-4 a many years ago. The dire need for cash at the time led to the sale of it and my B-15N. :rollno: Flash forward to the future: I'm looking forward to a Reeves Custom 225 landing (gently, please!) on my doorstep near the end of August. :hyper:

My Heritage has a Heyboer output transformer, and along with the Heritage cab, I'm hard pressed to hear any difference at all between my Heritage rig and my Blueline rig. I've used many different SVT rigs over the years, from old to new, USA to Japan to Vietnam to China, and while I can tell differences with cabs, I'm pretty hard pressed to tell the difference between heads. Have not been able to do a proper AB with an imported head vs my heads, though.

which do you like better? how do they compare as far as sound?

i have the ampeg svt classic and 8x10 cab. i've also used a mesa boogie bass 400+ before. i just liked how the ampeg was more simple. the orange is even simpler than the ampeg and i was thinking of trying it out one day.

the mesa 400+ you barely touch the eq and it changes the sound drastically. i guess that's good if you like to use all kinds of different sounds but i basically just play with the same sound for every song. that one good sound! the orange cost double what an ampeg does though so i was wondering if the sound was better or what the difference was if any?
