What USB interface is good for recording bass?

If you have FireWire on your computer, I would highly recommend getting a FireWire interface, rather than USB. If you're on a budget, go for a TC Electronics Impact Twin or used Apogee Duet FireWire.

If you need to go USB, a new Apogee Duet. The new Universal Audio Apollo Twin looks cool if you want to use their plug ins and have Thunderbolt capability. I've heard mixed reviews of the quality of the converters and have not used one myself.

re cabling question XLR>XLR, from DI to interface, switching the input on the interface to line level is the way to go.

Presonus Windows drivers are garbage, at least when working with ASIO. Just FYI

Firestudio Project/Windows 7 here. No problems at all.

I will say though, that the first I bought was having some problems, and I had to send it back, and have them send another unit. It could be something similar with you.

I assume you've already rid yourself of it, and found something else. But if not, that may be the case, and you should have a look at your options of getting a replacement.

Because really, I use my interface daily without problem. Things just break sometimes, and that is life. =]

I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and it's great. My only gripe are the signal "halos" which i have trouble identifying the color since i'm colorblind, so if you're colorblind too beware it might be a problem.
I've heard bad things about the Fast Track, apparently it's crashy.

My Tascam US-122L (I think that's the model, works with Windows 7), seems to crash a bit as well. It will just stop playing sounds. I had an earlier US-122 model for Windows XP and it was great. I never tried re-installing the driver - it could have just been something that simple.

However, I didn't find it's latency all that great using Audacity to play a backing track, and record my bass at the same time. But I also may not have set everything up to optimize performance.
