What was the first instruments you played? And eventually we played bass.

First instrument was piano for me, no formal training but learned to read and play a little. In 6th grade started on tuba and eventually learned trombone and baritone. Started playing drums in 10th grade and eventually started on bass at 19.

The background in low brass and drums was really helpful, except that I suck at soloing as I've never played a solo-type instrument. Always been a rhythm section and/or support player. Heck I was even a offensive lineman for football. Never been one for the spotlight. Probably good thing since I'm not that pretty to look at;)

Almost +1 to rmkesler! Found a sax in the attic of the grandparents some 18 years ago, and started tinkering. Been jazzing for a good few years with an array of saxes and did a little fiddling with the keys that hasn't (yet) taken, but always wanted to GROOVE,

I finally stopped procrastinating a couple of weeks ago and took the plunge into the world of the low end. More story there, but that's the skinny version.

I didn't figure out how to play saxophone on my own. :D

I meant that I figured out what year that was. I played saxophone in the school bands until I graduated. It was also my major instrument in college. I've never had a bass lesson.

My bass playing most likely shows this. ;)

My dad always had an acoustic guitar laying around & I'd bang on that as a toddler up to 4th grade when I started playing the viola. Played that up to 6th grade and jumped on drums for a year. Hated playing just a snare & wanted a kit but my folks didn't want all that racket so I got a bass in 8th grade. Oh, and I also played the recorder, hand bells, and xylophone in grade school music class. Ha.

Started on sax in 4th or 5th grade. Started guitar in 6th grade (my cousin was in a pretty popular band around the area) but started to play just the low strings. Started bass in 7th grade I think. Music Ed major in college, teacher now.
