What was your first amp (old guys only)

Some POS that came from the Monroe catalouge store. But, I was sure glad my dad bought it.

My first "Real" amp I got was around 1974/5. It was a Fender Bassman 100. Amp and cabinet was 300 bucks. Damn cost of inflation

The year was 1967. I had a used 115 Sears Silvertone tube amp with an open back cab and the head fit into a compartment in the back for transport. It had to be the worst-sounding bass amp ever created! It was one of the ones covered in ugly grey tweed tolex. Definitely unique to look at. Turns out they were great guitar amps, but that was no help to me. :D

1971 - Built a 2x15 cab and built an amp. Played for about 6 months, blew up amp. Got a Kustom (I think - it had the pleated vinyl) head for it later. Built and used my own cabs until 1978 when I got a yamaha 2x15.

the year was 1837 and it was a am.....yea im not as old as i think you guys want me to be.

BUT, i started playing bass late 90s and i was using my dads combo bass amp, dont remember what it was but i didnt care i was just screwin around. oh actaully it was a Musicman twin...it was ganstarr! i wonder if it still around.....Anyways, the first amp i ever bought that was mine was an ampeg CL, with an 8x10, i recently sold that rig and went to a GK rig for about 3 months then went back to the same set up except with the newer models of ampegs Classic gear.

I have recently had thoughts of buying back my old ampeg just to keep around becuase it was my first.

1978 - I'm not sure of the model number; it was quite some time ago, but I had a Yamaha combo amp with a 15" speaker...A couple of years after that I played through an Ampeg head (again, too long ago to remember specifics on the head) and a homemade cab with 2 15" Black Widow speakers...

1972 or 73 it was a Kasino 100 15" combo.... Then my first Acoustic 360 in like 1974. I got my first SVT right when I graduated Hi School in 75-76... A big Blue SVT. Head and cab was 1200.00 list and I paid right under a grand for both, new. I'll never forget it.

My first amp was a Lafayette that I got from a friend's older brother in 1977 or so. It had a Vox tone Bender stuck in the back which I still have.

Then, the first amp capable of handling a bass somewhat was a Fender Showman, followed by a silver sparkle tuck and roll Kustom 100, then back to the Showman. Finally, I put a Rex Bogue Balz Deluxe in my bass (a Gibson EB2D) and got a McIntosh 2105 and a dual 15 with JBLs that was supposedly built by Joe Walsh's sound guy. That lasted me quite a while.

Out of all of that, I don't miss anything (still got the mac and the Tone Bender) except the EB2D. Right as it was going out the front door when I sold it I knew I'd miss it.

I didn't own it, but the first amp I ever played through was an old Kustom blue tuck and roll job, matching head and cab. A friend of my mom & dad's left it at our house for a while, and he had an early 60's P bass to go with it too.:D This would have been about 1974. I had permission to play it, but didn't know how. He came back for it after a few months, but that's what made me want to play the bass, so I got a guitar instead, at the suggestion of a music store salesman.:confused:

The first amp I ever owned was a POS little cardboard box solid state made in Japan something or other. Not worth remembering, I remember that much.

In 1969 I got a Bassman 50 with a 2x12 cab. Loved the sound, but it wasn't loud enough. In 1970 I bought my Plush 1060S with a 3x15 cab. I stopped playing in the mid 70's when gigs just got too hard to come by since people were only interested in disco. Recently my son got me inspired to play bass again, so he and I are sharing the Plush. However, I'm not sure why he's playing the Plush since he has a new Ashdown C210.

My first amp back in the day wasn't a bass amp. I started playing guitar back in '82. It was an Ozborne. A 65 watt Ozborne guitar amp called a "lil ozzy". My older brother bought it for me for my 14th birthday. It was really cool of him to do that for me though. I wouldn't have picked that amp but hey it's the thought that counts.

I was so embarrased of that thing. I was not into Metal or Ozzy or hair bands or what ever they were called back then. I think it was some brand using Ozzy's name to sell stuff. It was affiliated with Ozzy Osborne so I put Black Flag, and Vandals stickers over the Ozzy name.

It got thrown into a pool at a party gig a couple of years later. I let a friend borrow it for a gig we were playing but thats another story:scowl:
