a cortez 1-12" combo 35 watts I think. when i got a little better my friend and i split the the cost on a sunn beta bass 2- 15" combo. $400 I recall. I bought him out on his half the next summer. It was all mine. I use that amp for 7 or 8 years. the punk years were not so kind, and it was sold for far less than it was worth. I see alot of beta heads and 1-15" combos but I've only seen one other 2-15" combo. that was 1982 or 83, like I said the punk years, not so kind.

Same starter but I stepped up to an Ampeg B-15N. and later I built a 2X15 cab with the B-15N head as the amp. Used that until I got into Acoustic Control Corp. stuff. (B150, B140 & 450 and the 2X15 cab I built)

Me too! Started with that Dano-made Silvertone piggyback 1-15. The head stored in the cab. That thing broke up and distorted at the lowest volumes! Not a plus for bass. Then I got my B15 brand new from Manny's in NYC in 1966 (age 14). Had my name engraved on the Lucite. Rhythm guitar player said "Jeez for the money you coulda got a Bassman! " The B15 was better.

My first was a '75 Custom 50 watt combo with a 15" driver. I had it for 2 years while finishing college. It was ok for practice but not enough to keep up with a rock drummer. Sold it and got a GK800RB and a dual 15 cab.

1973

Marshall Super PA with a Sunn 2x15 reverse mounted folded horn cab. Amp was basically a mid 60s plexi with 4 channels and 8 inputs. It was modded from 100w to 180w, which made it too clean for gtar and I got it cheap. The cab sucked, but when I got I didn't know better.

I had some of the crappy mods on amp fixed by Jose Arredondo who later became famous for modding Eddie Van Halen's amps for the "brown sound".

Anyone here own the amp now?

A Gibson Thor. Hadn't thought about it in, well, decades. 50 watts, solid state, two 10s. Got it in 1967. I don't remember what happened to it, I think it was stolen out of my car in 1971. Even found a picture of one:

An Oliver HB-150 head, made by Jesse Oliver of Ampeg fame, running through a huge blue sparkle vinyl covered Kustom 8x10 cabinet. Bought both used in 8th grade for the (then) whopping price of $200. I just sold the Oliver a couple of years ago after meeting with Mr. Oliver personally to get it up to speed. It had been sitting in my basement unused for over 25 years.

'81 or so I had a

with a 215, but blew up the cab trying to keep up with a Marshall half stack. Who knew cranking the bass at max volume was bad for the speakers? Traded up to a

with a 415 cab. Marshall? I don't hear no stinking Marshall. The poor drummer never had a chance. What a gut rumbler that thing was. The cab was moved from basement to basement every weekend. I don't remember it being that big a deal.

First amp was a Traynor YBA-1. Bought it new in '71 for $150.00. Also bought 2, 15" SRO speakers and built 2, Eliminator cabinets. Using my EB-3 thru that setup kicked!! Soon after I bought another YBA-1 and used them both together. Two heads and two cabinets at the same time!!

I was a kid in heaven back then!!

The classic '67 blackface Bassman with a 2x15 Fender cab.

I still have the Bassman amp, now with a grounded AC cord on it.

This, except with the 212. The power cable has a "flip-out" ground on it, so it can be used grounded or not, you just rotate the ground plug 90 degrees to use/not use. It was actually my older brother's, but he wasn't playing bass at the time.

This was the first one that was "mine". 1979. Bought it new. Finally sold it for $150 in 1996 or 1997. It had been in the shop one time.
