So my musicman sub is getting a little old and i decided i would like to 'pep it up' by making at a pre EB stingray tribute. However, because i've never really seen one before (nor was i around in the 1970s) i was just hoping you guys could help me with what made these basses distinct from the current stingray models. I know this much:
-The neck/fingerboard was mostly maple (or at least, i prefer maple). I'm getting a luthier make me up a custom neck. I know the truss rod adjustment was up top instead of down the bottom.
-2 band eq - I hear john east make a good preamp that is a decent emulation of early mm pres.
-Slab body - the sub already has a slab body.
-Different bridge.. although these may be hard to come by.
My questions are:
-Are there any details i am missing?
-What kind of finish was on the maple necks? Were they glossy or more satin like the current ones?
-What colours were common in the era?
-If i put a gloss coat on a SUB, will it look 'glossy' or will it still look matte and rough but with a clear coat on it?
-Does anyone know where i can get the 'musicman stingray bass' decal i need? Im not intending on putting the stingray part on but i'd like the old MM logo.
-Any advice?
