What would your signature bass be?

prolly been asked before.. but why not an update..

Mine would be a skinnier.. fender P bass.. with deeper contours.. creme overwound neomagnet pickup.. aged tinted AAAA flame maple on Hard Maple body.. extra heavy brass bridge.. with satin nitro.. and an aged gold anodized pickguard no knobs and a strat style side jack.. with age orange tinted birdseye maple/Hard maple wood.. sanded worn in aging.. 12in radius but well rounded edge fret board.. big frets. light weight tuners.. a retainer on every string.. reversed headstock.. and a 1.5" brass compensation nut..

I don't care if you like my idea..

what's yours?

and just for hell of it what would you do to get it made by a company?

Mine would be a 4 string Jazz fretless but with a Precision shaped C neck. It would have a solid medium or high mass bridge with classic Fender spacing for my big'ole hands. I'd be all smiles if it had birdseye maple top and neck with a trans red trans blue finish. I'm sure it would have a nut width, whatever that is. It would have Fralins, maybe slight overwind. It would definitely have a John East preamp. The neck would be treated to smell like cumin when you play, like scratch and sniff. And knowing me (I know me pretty well) it would come with one of these:

I like P's and Stingrays, so the key with mine would be some type of custom pickup that would allow me to get both the P pickup and Stingray pickup both in their traditional positions. I don't think it's possible without some weird as-of-yet uninvented hybrid kind of pickup.

There would also be a two way pickup switch, so you're either on the P or the Ray pickup but never both together and no blend between the two. I hate having to find ideal blends between pickups.

Preamp would be a Music Man 2 band, and only active when in the Stingray position. In the P position it would be a completely passive bass. There would be a volume for each pickup and a passive tone control for the P pickup.

Importantly the output jack would be on the front, not the side.

I think I'd probably have it be flat white, no sparkle, with a black pickguard and a maple neck and board with no figuring. Neck would be exactly like a 2005 Rickenbacker 4003 in every dimension, but it would be bolt on. I picture it as basically looking like a Stingray, or maybe a Rickenbacker.

Ibanez ATK pick up was the one I heard can do it..

It already exists, I had a luthier build it for me! It's funny, because I just replied in another thread that this bass makes me feel like "a signature bass was built for me, even though I'm a nobody!".

So here it is: A headless passive 4-string PJ! 34'' scale, swamp ash body, flamed maple neck with a 24-fret ebony fingerboard, and Hipshot hardware. The Aguilar pickups gives it a rather mellow tone, on the more vintage-ish side of the p-bass spectrum. Controls are master volume, master tone, and 3-way switch. I use the P pickup soloed most of the time, and the height of the J pickup is adjusted for just the right amount of "burp" I like to add on certain tunes. I have a boost pedal on my board that I engage when I go PJ, in order to keep the volume at unity with the output of the soloed P pickup.

Sounds great, looks great (at least I think so), dead simple, and super ergonomic. Bonus: It fits in a guitar gig bag, so it's much easier to carry when walking, or when riding the subway.
