What Would You Do To Get This Bass Sound?

Not really being big on effects I'm not always the best one to guess what effects are being used to achieve a particular sound. I'm particularly not good at discerning the difference between distortion, fuzz and overdrive. Anyways this song by MeShell Ndegéocello is on one of my favorite playlists and I really enjoy the bass sound but I wouldn't know how to reproduce a sound like this myself.

There's a break around 3:56 where the bass is most prominently heard.



My wild guess is that it's combination of overdrive, reverb and chorus. But I'm asking you people more into effects how you would personally approach creating such a sound based on the pedals you habitually use. Also sounds to me like the bass is being played with a pick.

Per an interview with her by BassGear, she had this to say about her effects:

What does your pedal board look like, currently?

My pedal board setup currently includes a Morely A/B switcher, Boss TU-3 tuner, Boss OC-3 Super Octave, Ernie Ball volume pedal, and four pedals from Malekko Heavy Industries: the COMP (compressor), E. FILTER (envelope filter), B:ASSMASTER (like the old Maestro Bass Brassmaster), and EKKO 616 MKII (analog delay). I use a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 Plus to power all of these pedals.

For basses she’s has used her Fender JB a borrowed PB, and her signature Reverend Fellowship bass.

For amps she mainly favors Ampegs and Ampeg fliptops in particular - although at the time the interview was conducted she said she was using a Fender Twin and a 4x10 cab on the road.

So the above should give you a start.

FWIW, that track sounded like just a bass (I’ll guess her JB) strung with rounds being played aggressively through an OD plus some light compression and a tiny bit of delay. At least to my ears.
