What would you get?

Given the budget of around $300, being an almost 17 year old and in want of a fretless bass guitar (been playing electric bass around 2 years and upright as long as I can remember) and past used (since that changes from place to place depending on who's got what used bass obviously) what sort of fretless would you get?

OR

Would it be better to maybe get a fretless neck put on my Ibanez Gio soundgear bass since that has a bolt on neck?

Finding an Ibanez fretless neck maybe problematic. Look into Squier's vintage modified jazz. Priced at 299, fretless, and they play nice for the price.

For that price range, I'd say either a Squier or a Dean.

My first was one of these. You can find 'em used for about $225 or so, and new around $300. They play and sound great for the money.

I got my Squier VM Fretless for $150 used on Craigslist. It gets the job done
