What would you think is a fair price

NYCBass

If it feels good, it must be a Jazz Bass

Hi All,

A friend of mine is looking to sell me his all original 1977 Fender Jazz Bass. Plays good and everything works the way it should. I want to give him a fair price for the Bass but have not seen one in this condition up for sale in order to find a price to compare it to. So my question is, what would you consider to be a value for this 77 Jazz.

I, personally am not into mid 70s Fenders, as I had one, a 1975 Precision, and it was probably one of the worst Fenders ever made.

Within 2 years of buying it, the neck began to twist, it began to turn green in three places, probably from the wood not being properly sealed, or so a friend told me, and the bass never had any warmth to it. All mids and highs.

Assuming this bass is not like mine was, I'd say about $2,000.00.

Then again, think what that $2K could buy you brand new.

Hey, we're both in Queens. ;)

Good luck.

Mike

BTW...if you take the neck off you might find its as late as an '82 judging by the knobs.
Fender used S7, S8, and S9 up to 1983. There are no E0,1,2 Fenders other than the Bullet.
No way to tell if its a factory overspray and it should be considered a re-fin.
2k is fair, but not a great deal.

Were they still doing black n maple with blocks and binding into the 80s?
