What would you use?

Hey Guys,

I own a new Squier Jazz Bass Deluxe (active) 5 String and I'm about to borrow a Squier P Bass Speacial V. I know the end result will be what I think of either of these 2 basses on my sessions (by trade I'm not a bass player but rather jack of all) but what would you personally use if you were recording Avril Lavigne, Ashley Simpson, Kelly Clarkson type material.

If you have another bass in mind for the same price of these ($300US), I'm all ears.

I think for the pop stuff you're talking about, the P would be fine. I prefer the J because you get a litttle more variety in tone.

But also factor in the diff. size necks.

Thanks guys... Appreciate your input. I've yet to try either but in the event I don't borrow the P bass, can I make the Squier Jazz Bass sound close enough to it? I know, such newbie questions for you pros...

Simply putting BOTH pick ups on full ( both volume controls on full ) will give a similar sound, if just using the neck p-up by itself doesn't do it for you! AFAIK the Squier P special V has jazz p-ups anyway. The only difference is that it is passive & not active like the jazz!- sound-wise.

Yeah I noticed that about the Squier P pick ups as well. I guess it sort of defeats the purpose of getting the P bass but I'll certainly give your info a go.

knock the bridge pickup back just a shade helps get a better p tone
