What you need and How to Record to Computer

well, me and my band are just recording a cd, and we're hooking it up to my computer

we're using a tascam 8-track recorder and the stuff soudns good on it, we're going to mix it all on there, and then we need some good software to record it to comp. We use a normal guitar cable and got a jack minimizer to change it from 1/4 to 1/8 and then plugged it in, but I put it in the mic in and the volume has to be down MAJOR on the 8 track and **** in order for anything to record without being crazy distorted, I plug into the line in and I don't get **** all happeneing on Cubase SX it's weird, is there any different software around that's any better? any suggestions?

I've used NTRACK for several years now - it keeps getting better.

The cheapest sound card that performs well is the old Ensoniq Audio PCI card ( now owned by creative ). It was the quietest consumer sound card I found ( about $20 new) although I don't believe it's ASIO. You can still find them around for about $5 - i just saw a half dozen on Ebay - if you don't like the sound toss it!

You remember ensoniq, right, that cool company that made the 8 bit Mirage sampler??? a miracle of modern science in it's day

Wow, this thread answered a big question of mine. When I recorded, I went through the mic in. I had to have really low low volume to avoid clipping. As many of you know as your volume goes down, your tone goes suckward. Line in, eh.

For kicks, will my stock Intel Integrated Audio soundcard work for recording?

It'll be ok for a start, but you'll want better stuff soon. A M-Audio Audiophile is at around 200 and is very good.

Ok what the heck! I used my Canon digital camera plugged into the rca line out of the Yamaha PA...used a couple of mics hangin from the ceiling. Then just plugged in the audio out jacks into the computer and captured the songs with my Roxio Easy creator 6 sound editor. Played with the record level, eq, enhancers and such and came up with this...
