Whats a good head for this cab? help is greatly appreciated

Hey guys, I figured I would ask the pros to ensure I dont underpower the cab I just bought. I just found an ampeg svt810hpc made in the USA brand new that I got a deal on for about 820$ (its been sitting at a small local mom & pop music store for over a year now and it was inventory from another local store that closed down so the owner was just looking to move it quick and with a discount) I was just wondering what heads would work really well with this size cab. Its the largest cab & best Ive ownded for that matter, so what I had my eyes on was an SVT 3 Pro, but I wanted to get your alls suggestions on it if possible.

If you don't have an amp hooked up and running yet you are already UNDER-POWERING it!!!:rollno:
Seriously......pick an amp head you like and use it. From a 35 watt tube B15 to an SVT tube or SS, G-K MB200 to the 2001RB, GenzBenz, MarkBass, Hartke, Carvin, Marshall, Traynor the list goes on and on. The only way to "under-power" is not having enough power from the amp for the venue you are playing and that cab should handle around 800 watts RMS from any amp head at bass frequencies before it reaches its limits. :)

+1. ^^^ This. Plus a nice Ampeg SVTCL head would be sweet on top of that cab. ;)

+1 again. It's a nice cab, find a nice head to go with it. Don't worry abouts spec's, especially wattage. It's not important. Just get enough juice to make yourself comfortable playing at whatever volume you play at, and be more concerned about the cab, as even a 300 watt amp *could* damage the spkrs, if not used properly.

Thanks alot guys, the only reason that Im a little paranoid about buying a head on my own is because Ive never had a cab that could handle such massive wattages. So in that aspect I was very worried Id buy a head thats power would be too low and damage the speakers. Ive heard some people say the affordable b2re 450 wt solid state head works great paired with an svt 810, then Ive also had my eye on the b4r 500wtt head, and of course the svt 3 pro. I couldnt agree with you guys more about an SVT Classic, it would be amazing but out of my budget. While Id prefer to match head & cab ampeg & ampeg I also was looking at the orange tiny terror 500wtt bass head. Any comments? & once again Im so thankful for everyones input :)

hey guys, you all have really gave me some awesome help, and B-string as well as everyone else not too worry about the matching thing :) you all are giving me some great other brands that I can research and consider, once again I greatly appreciate this & this is really helping me!

You cannot UNDERpower a cab. That's a myth. Search TB and you'll find much discussion about that.

That said, the Genz-Benz amp line is outstanding. Considering that the cab is heavier than an anvil, it probably doesn't matter to look at lightweight heads, but their Shuttle 9.0, ShuttleMax and other 900-watt and up heads would be wonderful with it.

you know what B-string, after looking at that ampeg pf500 it may be a good starting head to go with, 500W is a good amount for the cab & since most my money went in the cab I can say that 400$ new is a wonderful price for my budget at the moment. Have any of you guys had experience with the pf500?

just so.

find something that sounds good that you can afford; with a cab that big, you'll still hear yourself even with a weaker amp.
