What's a slap switch?

I'm thinking about buying a cort curbow 5 string and it comes with a "slap switch". It doesn't say in the flier exactly what it is. So can someone plz explain to me what it is/does?

Probably cuts out the mids so it sounds more like a slap tone. The Ibanez SR400 series has a control that switches from slap to fingerstyle.

It's usually a switch that scoops the mids when engaged.

mid scoop. Generally useless in real-gig situations, in my opinion (I know - been there, done that). Mids are where your bass gets heard.

Yes, it's mids cut switch. It lowers the mid frequencies to make the bass sound better if you're going to slap. With mids boosted or in normal level when you slap it's not sounding "tight"... it's like playing in a barrel (in most cases).
Most basses don't have the switch, but have the mid potentiometer so you can control the amount of boost/cut instead. Of course there is bass and treble control too .

If it has the Seymour Duncan/Basslines pre-amp in it, the "slap switch" cuts the mids . You can select the mid point and the amount of cut with two mini trim pots on the PC board.

What's a slap switch? you flip it you get slapped.

slap switch enganges some extra equalizing. it makes your bass has 5 band equalizer (just like my bass with SD preamp) those cut the mid in certain frequency and boost the low, also in certain frequency. it makes the sound sharper n cleaner i think.
