whats better?

I'm down sizing my rig I've got a 8x10 (which is going) and a 4x10, I'm looking for something quick and easy to move around.

So,

I'm stuck between getting the TC 2x10 or the TC 2x12, which is better sound wise? A 2x10 would have more bottom end I'd imagine and the 2x12 would have more of an all rounded sound? From my experience using an old Trace Eliot 2x10.

I've got around £280 for a cabinet, a TC 2x10 is about £250 and the TC 2x12 is around £280 last time i checked (this is for the old models not the new £500 models) they both are exactly the same inside just different looks basically.

depending on your budget a fEARful 1212/6 will have 810 level output.

and here we go with the Fearful hyperbole.
From what I recall a fearful 15/6 falls between a 2x10 and 4x10 in terms of sensitivity. A 12/6 being a bit less in output per watt.
So I doubt a 1212/6 would have "810 level output".
Maybe more akin to a really good 4x10, or your average 6x10.
Personally I would go with a different brands 2x12.
The Mesa and GK 2x12 cabs both sound great.

Going from an 810 or 410 down to a 210 will be a serious DECREASE in capable volume output. The 212 would be close in output to the 410, so naturally, more volume than the 210. Bear in mind, 10's do NOT have any inherent sound that can be associated with the fact that they're 10" spkrs, anymore than 12's or 15's can. It's more to do with the overall design of the box itself, and it's tuning frequency. The ONLY thing you can generalize is, bigger spkrs will generally be louder than smaller spkrs.

I know its a huge decrease in volume but due to car troubles and not playing big venues anymore I reckon a 2x12 would suit me for any gig really or I can just bust out my 4x10 if not. Yes I know the bigger the speaker the more volume but my question was which is better tone wise? 10's are great but they are sharp so would a 2x12 possibly give a warmer tone?

From greenboy's fearful FAQ:

A 12/6 is almost as loud as most 210 cabs with one watt input, and more extended in response. When driven fully it can get nearly as loud as a good 410. The fEARFUL will sound fuller while maintaining clarity, and will disperse wider. It will not lose its punch when driven hard.

A 15/6 is as loud as most 310 cabs with one watt input, and more extended in response. With a lot of watts it can get as loud or louder than a 610 driven to its limits, and will sound fuller and more responsive while doing it.

and here we go with the Fearful hyperbole.

I'd like to stick to a company name/brand I know of to be honest, I've gone down the route trying name out I've never heard yeah their Pro's but I just thought they were terrible amps/cabs so I don't want to make the same mistake twice here.

Speaker size means diddly. The only thing you can generalize about speaker size alone is it means nothing to the tone of a cab. If it mattered, then all cabs with the same size speakers would sound the same. Just look for a cab that sounds good to you and could handle your gigs and don't get hung up on stuff that doesn't matter.

Of the two choices, I preferred the TC212 over the 210, for the few minutes I got to mess with them at a friends house.
A little fatter, and for sure louder.

A fEarful 15/6 easily matches or exceeds a good 410 for volume and definition. That's not hyperbole; it's fact. It assumes you will feed the 15/6 500 watts or more.

FWIW between the OP's choices I'd choose the 212, simply because it'll be louder than the 210. No way to guess the tone/depth etc based on the driver sizes.

The TC 212 has more oomph than the TC 210.

I think I'm going to settle with the 2x12, I've gone out and tried some 2x10's and one 2x12 (the only had one) and i think the 2x12 sounded better to my ears. But thanks for the advice and input guys :)

Good choice. I don't know about that cab but I have two Avatar 2x12s with neo speakers. One by itself has plenty of balls for bar gigs. I only take the second if I'm playing outside or a big place where I won't be in the PA.

I haven't played a ton of cabs but my general rule is 1 speaker it better be a 15. Two speakers need to be at least 12s. 3 or 4 speakers and I will consider 10s.
