hey i was wondering what do you guys think is more important: a bass with a great feel or a bass with a great tone. i was at my local music shop and played a peavey grind and a fender p bass. the peavey was one of the best feeling basses i have ever played (not saying much) but the tone wasn't anything special. however the p bass tone was quite beast but i wasn't to fond of the feel of it compared to the peavey.

If the tone isn't there, it doesn't matter how good it feels... 
Fortunately, changes/upgrades to better pickups, preamps and/or strings can often make for a dramatic improvement in tone. It's not nearly as easy to change the basic "feel" of the instrument, i.e. shape, design, size, construction type, materials, etc.

Both, I think tone influences in feel also. Even if a I have a great feeling bass, if it doesn´t sound good it appears it doesn´t feel good either.
Thankfully we don't. There are plenty of options out there at all kinds of price points that deliver on both fronts.
Tone can be fixed. Feel - some will say you have to get used to it - f that. Find a bass that feels good with great tone. Tone starts with you anyway....

Feel. All the way. Most basses can get an approximation of a tone that I'm happy with, aside from my main player (I think) has a very distinct tone that comes with the greatest feel ever.

I can change the strings, change out the pickups, run through effects, change the settings on the amp (and the way I have amp set, I'm playing it as much as I'm playing the bass, anyway), to change the tone. If a bass's neck I still find to be uncomfortable even after a setup, nothing's going to be able to change that except really drastic mods.

Love the sound of my Ibanez MUsicians and Studios but they are an absolute beast to play. Funny I am a bodybuider and wrestling with the weight and ergonomics of these instruments keeps me from using them as much as I should. Not sure how sting played them!-But then again if I didnt love the tone I probably would have gotten rid of them by now!-Difficult question to answer.
