I recently saw a stock mid 90's L-2500 in good shape selling for $2000.00. Can this be right ? Have G&Ls really gained this much value ????

No. That's more than a brand new one with a fistfull of expensive options. They're just hoping that someone jumps without research. I can't think of any L-2500 from the mid 90's that could demand that kind of coin. I don't care if it's new, unused, with all case candy, and hermetically sealed in a case.
I see things like that on Craigslist from time to time. They're usually accompanied by crappy cel phone camera photos or a single full length shot that would be appropriate in size as an avatar on a message board. Then there's the admonition, "NO LOW-BALLERS!", added because realism is low-ball.

I sold a 1981 L-2000E with ash body & maple neck for US$1000 shipped about a month ago. You might get a bit more than that if yours is mahogany, but I'd say it'll top out around $1200.

I have an '81 L2000E also. I try to follow auctions for early G&L stuff when I find them. Early L2000E's don't come around too often and usually go pretty quick when they do show up for sale, but in my opinion for way less than what they're really worth. What Duke said is about the average I have seen.
Even $1300 sounds stupid cheap to me, considering that's what a new Standard Jazz or P-Bass would run. I could leave my house and pick up one of those in just about any color I wanted and be back home jammin in less than an hour. Try doing that with an L2000E
An L1000 did just sell for $1350 shipped on ebay a couple days ago. I dunno, maybe people are catching on.

You know, every so often something like that happens. It's weird. Then, for the next two weeks, you'll see three or four L-1000s not top $700. I can never figure out if it's the color/wood/year or what that drives one up into the stratosphere 'cuz there seems to be no pattern....
So, I guess I'm saying that you should look out for some cheap Wunkays during the next few weeks.
